Mtr. Taylor Daynes (she/her) was ordained to the priesthood in 2018, and began her call as as priest and chaplain to the Episcopal Church at Cornell shortly thereafter. In this role she’s cultivated her love of spiritual and theological exploration through the lens of ritual, close-reading, conversation, and poetry. The Anglican via media–the “middle way” that eschews extremes and derives clarity within mystery–is essential to her outlook as a priest, pastor, and teacher, and she finds meaning and satisfaction in accompanying students along their own pathways of questioning and faith. Before her priestly ordination, Mtr. Taylor served in various lay and ordained roles around the country–professional gardener in Boston, hospital chaplain in Connecticut, creative writing instructor and community organizer in Baltimore, and deacon in Rochester. She studied Anglican Theology at the University of Toronto, and received her MFA from Johns Hopkins, MA in Religion from Yale Divinity School, and BA in English from Vanderbilt. A poet and gardener, she lives with her husband, Will, daughter Johanna, one magical black cat, and two felicitous tuxedos.
